First UK edition with a full 1 to 10 number sequence indicating a first printing. Age tanning to pages making them very brown but still eminently readable. Bumped at head and tail of book spine. The dust jacket is complete, still shows the price, but is showing signs of wear. The inside front flap has a crease running from top to bottom – it looks as though it has been folded in-over at some time. The author is described as the Dick Francis of the art world.
SYNOPSIS “Parnello Moran has a gift. He can read the hidden handwriting of the artists of the past. He can spot the sleepers, the unsigned pictures in auctions that turn out to be by major masters, worth twenty times their estimate. It is a profitable talent. Profitable, that is, until he buys a German landscape in New York. The picture is stolen from him. When Parnello sets out to get it back, he finds to his horror that all its recent owners have met with violent deaths…”
