This is a first US mass market paperback edition with a full 1 to 9 number sequence indicating a first Signet printing. The covers are showing only very slight signs of wear to the extremities: some minor chips to head and tail of spine. The rear panel is more yellow than white. Age tanning to pages making them very brown but still eminently readable. At some point the covers were covered in a plastic wrapper and where the wrapper was taped together has left marks on the first and last pages of the book and there is also the shadow of where it was on the inside of the covers as it has tanned where the cover was. In very nice condition for its age.
A shorter version of this novel was first published in Beyond Fantasy Fiction for May 1954 under the title “Sine of the Magus”.
SYNOPSIS: “When a sweet little elderly lady hired private eye Casey to find out the real name of a man known only as Solomon, he thought he’d taken on a very easy case. But what Casey didn’t know was that as he walked into the hotel where Solomon was staying, he was stepping out of the real world and into the real of magic.
For Solomon was the Magus, the head of a powerful organization of witches and warlocks attending a “convention” at the hotel. And when Casey crashed the party, he became a helpless pawn in the deadly battle between primal forces of good and evil…”
