A first UK edition hardback (first published by Penguin the previous year in paperback). Bumped at head of book spine. The dust jacket is complete and still shows the price but is showing some slight signs of wear to the extremities and is a little yellow rather than white. Some minor creasing at the top of the jacket spine to match the bump.
SYNOPSIS: “For hotelier Clare Somerville, life is a constant flow of drunken evenings, one-night stands and unforgiving hangovers. Then one morning she is forced to take a long hard look at her life and is repelled by what she sees.
Determined to make drastic and lasting changes, Clare sells up and heads for the Scottish highlands to start afresh. At first the shocking isolation of the Larach, a crofting cottage on the shore of a lock seems utterly incompatible with her needs and Clare wonders how she will adapt to the self-sufficiency of her new life in Loch Leven.”
