Comments & Further Information

First UK edition hardback in very good condition for its age. Foxing to top edge of pages not affecting page faces and tanning to pages.  Bumped at head and tail of book spine.  The dust jacket is complete, still shows the price but is showing signs of wear with chips and nicks to edges and a little grubby.

SYNOPSIS:  “Charles Russell, of the Security Executive, was getting no younger and knew that the time had come to assume the role of an eminence gris.  So Richard  Laver was promoted, to his own surprise and this was his first case – a “typical one to start you on” said Russell’s covering note on the file.

It concerned SPD – Selective Pigmentation Disease – something particularly nasty which had been produced by the Chemical Defence Experimental Establishment in Wiltshire.  A development of biological warfare which overcame the distressing probability that the aggressor might suffer the disease he unleashed on his brothers… and now there was the possibility of a major leak.”
