Comments & Further Information

An undated US paperback.  The title was previously published by Penguin in 1966 and re-issued by Ballantine Books in 1973.  Age tanning to pages and to inside of covers.  Covers are showing signs of wear to the extremities.  There is a crease across the top right-hand corner of the front cover and there are reading creases to the spine which also has a slight slant.  The covers are generally grubby and there is some staining to the rear cover adjacent to the spine.

SYNOPSIS:  “First, they gave Charlie Brody a good, old-fashioned, gangland funeral.  Then they sent Al Engel to dig up the body.  Except someone beat him to it.  Well, they didn’t really need the body, just the suit with all the heroin in the lining.  Naturally, the suit was gone, too.  So was the mortician and his assistant.  But there was a beautiful blonde hanging around claiming to be the mortician’s wife.

All of which Al might have found interesting but for one thing:  if he didn’t come up with the suit, he was going to replace Charlie in the coffin!”
