Comments & Further Information

This is a 4th impression paperback edition from March 1936. (The title was first published in 1934).    A reading copy only, not one for a collector.  At some point in its life it looks like the text block and the covers have parted company along the gutter margin  and have been stuck together with some brown tape (see photos).  Previous owner’s name written on the half-title page along with some sort of reference number.  There is also some damage to the bottom of the page where something was stuck or rubbed out.   Age tanning to pages. Reading creases to spine.   The covers are a little grubby and are showing some signs of wear to the extremities.

A Dr Priestley novel.

SYNOPSIS:  “The motor-cruiser Alondra had come over the harbour bat at Riddinghithe with the last of the flood and dropped anchor for the night.  The next morning a boatman putting out to do a bit of fishing notices the body of a man lying across the cabin top.  Steering closer to investigate, he saw that the man’s head was shattered.

The police are baffled, as they cannot discover anything about the dead man beyond his name and the fact that he was a keen yachtsman.  It remains for Dr Priestley to bring about an entirely unexpected denouement…”
