SYNOPSIS: “A romantic novel. Set in Summer Wine Country in the early 1800’s.
1812, a year laden with trouble, anxiety and tragedy for many in England, and the West Riding in particular. The long struggle against Napoleon and the recent war with America, together with the bad harvests o the last two years affected everybody. Locally it was the year of the murder of William Horsfall by the Luddites who were dedicated to smashing the “new fangled machine looms” which they believed would deprive them of their livelihood and the building of the reservoirs which some believe would flood the valleys. These various threads are interwoven into the fabric of the novella which is set in and around the Holme Valley of 1812…”
