SYNOPSIS: “Kate Fitzgerald, working quietly at her desk in the Foreign Office, is surprised and upset to receive a phone call from a former boy friend. Rupert, a confirmed drifter, is at present employed by a strange little organization that calls itself ‘Friend of the Third World Unlimited’ and has offices in a seedy part of Soho.
Kate agrees to meet Rupert for lunch and finds herself still susceptible to his charm. On a weekend visit to her grandmother who lives on the south coast, Kate gets involved, via Rupert, in an illegal immigration racket which ends in unexplained death and on her return to London she begins to understand that this affair is only a cover for a grim political intrigue, the outcome of which is a devastating betrayal.”
