Comments & Further Information

This is a paperback edition –  4th impression January 1940.  The title was originally published in 1936.  The covers which are showing signs of wear to the extremities, are rather grubby and there is some foxing.  Crease across the bottom right-hand corner of the front cover.  The spine is slanted, has some slight damage to the base and has reading creases.  Internally the pages are tanned as are the inside of the covers.  The half title page has some damage at the bottom – it looks like someone has tried to rub out something (see photo).  Previous owner’s name written neatly on the title page.

A Dr Priestley novel.

SYNOPSIS:  “Accidental death by drowning was the verdict at the inquest on Major Walter Bedworthy.  But Sir John Hallatrow, the Major’s close friend, suspected murder.  His suspicions were confirmed when some days later Ernest Bedworthy, Walter’s brother was also found drowned.

Dr Priestly, assisted by Superintendent Haslet and young Jimmy Waghorn, succeeds in bringing to justice a very clever murderer.”
