Comments & Further Information

First UK edition hardback in very good condition for its age. Tanning to pages making them very brown, but still eminently readable.  Bump to head of book spine.  Previous owner’s bookplate on front paste down.  The dust jacket is complete and still shows the price.

INSCRIBED: “To Dave, very best wishes, Steve Gallagher 28th January 1989”.

SYNOPSIS: “Johnny Mays. Imagine the moral conscience of a selfish child in the frame of a plain-clothes cop. The city is his playground. The rest of us are his toys… he can find out who we are, and where we live, and what will scare us most. And Johnny never had a toy that he didn’t break. But now he’s dead, isn’t he? He started a chase, and he pushed it too far. Now they’re fishing for his body at the foot of a dam, and Nick Frazier has been left behind. They were friends once, a long time ago; but when they met again, it was as partners on the streets. Nick had hoped that he might save Johnny. But by Johnny’s reckoning, Nick betrayed him. As they haul Johnny’s empty car from out of the lake the truth becomes clear. Nothing is as it seems. And now Johnny Mays is back, and he’s baying at the moon.”
