A UK paperback edition which states Special Overseas Edition 1986, reprinted 1987.  In very good condition for its age.  Heavy age tanning to pages making them rather brown but still eminently readable.  Covers are showing signs of wear to extremities.  Slight damage to leading edge of cover and also at the top edge of the rear cover.

First book in the Crumley Series.

SYNOPSIS:  “Venice, California 1949. They were knocking down the arcade and the roller coaster lay scattered on the ground like dinosaur bones. On the late train back a drunk sat down behind me and whispered of Death between wine-dark teeth. I didn’t turn round. I shivered. I needed a drink. Later I took a wrong turn outside a bar and walked past the canals where the tide sucked through the empty cages of the abandoned circus. In one the body of an old man undulated with the swell like a ghostly lion-tamer. And I screamed.”
