This is a first UK edition hardback which lacks a dust jacket and has had a hard life (perhaps been a library book at some point?) It is in rather tatty and fragile condition. Seems to be a scarce title. A reading copy only.
Bumped at head and tail of book spine. Rubbing to board edges especially the corners. The boards are also very grubby and there is some staining.
The pastedowns are tanned/stained and there is a small tear at the bottom edge of the front and rear end paper. The book has staining throughout. It looks like a page has been removed both at the front and rear of the book and the book gutter is cracked (see photos).
A Dr Priestley novel.
SYNOPSIS: “After a man is found gassed to death in a Cornish coastal resort, Superintendent Jimmy Waghorn takes up the case with the long-distance assistance of his mentor Doctor Priestley. Priestley is able to cast doubt on the police’s view that the dead man’s young housekeeper, now missing, is responsible for the crime.”
