Comments & Further Information

This is a US paperback edition in fair condition for its age.  Published in the UK as Night Exercise.   Undated but circa 1946 – Popular Library 99.   The book is generally grubby.  Heavy age tanning to pages making them very brown but still eminently readable.  The covers are showing signs of wear to the extremities and are very creased (see photos) with vertical creases down the front and back covers.  Some damage to the base of the book spine , which is also slanted.

SYNOPSIS:  “When Major Ledbury, a local officer in Britain’s Home Guard, ordered a night drill, he had no idea that he was setting the stage for an unusual tragedy in his own ranks.

It all happened when Colonel Chalgrove, the Group Commander, a man cordially hated, made an unexpected appearance to inspect the Home Guard defenses.

After finding fault with most of Ledbury’s preparations, he retired to an observation post from which he never returned…”
