Comments & Further Information

This is an undated book club edition from circa 1959.  Bumped at head and tail of book spine and at corners of front boards.  Tanning to pages.  The dust jacket has had a hard life with pieces missing at the head and tail of the jacket spine spine and a tear down the edge of the spine which is also badly rubbed/scuffed.  The jacket overall is rather grubby.  The jacket is protected by a sleeve.

SYNOPSIS:  “When Samuel Cheever, a shady dealer, goes to France to buy antiques and never returns, people in his hometown of Francaster begin to ask “What’s happened to Cheever?”  And when the local MP asks a similar question in the House, it is thought to be time to send Superintendent Littlejohn to France to make enquiries.

Cheever’s bones are discovered in the Camargue, the wilderness around the Rhone delta, and Littlejohn again finds himself with Sergeant Cromwell for company, among his friends of the Mediterranean police.”
