A first UK edition hardback in good condition for its age. Age tanning to pages making them rather brown but still eminently readable. Some foxing to leading edges. Bumped at head and tail of book spine and to bottom left-hand corner of rear board. This bump has caused some of the pages to have a slight bend in them at the same place as the bump and page 155 has a crease across the top right-hand corner where it has been folded down. The dust jacket is virtually complete, still shows the price but is looking a little tired and a bit grubby. There is a small piece missing at the top edge adjacent to the flat and a small tear at the bottom of the front panel, adjacent to the flat. Rubbing to extremities and some creasing to top edge of rear panel which is also a little grubby.
SYNOPSIS: “It is Cella Lebass”s birthday, and the great gates at the entrance to Blackwater Hall are opened in preparation for her ritual drive. As the fog moves densely over the Essex marshes, the members of her family prepare for a reunion, seemingly unwanted but inevitable.
As they converge on Blackwater, the strangeness and tension, that have for so many years surrounded the double-existence of Cella Lebasse, threaten to explode in destruction and death.”
