Comments & Further Information

A first UK edition hardback in very good condition for its age.  Bump to head of book spine.  The dust jacket is complete, still shows the price, but is showing signs of wear.  It is rubbed along the fold-in to the rear flap and the rear panel is grubby and has picked up some patches of discolouration all across the panel.

SYNOPSIS:  “A young district officer has been murdered on a South Pacific island about to achieve independence.  A politician has broken out of jail, and an aged priest has plunged into the jungle on a perilous mission.  These apparently unrelated events have the island in turmoil.  In a colonial society rent by racial and social tensions, the extra strains only exacerbate an explosive situation.  Melhuish, the mysterious arrival from London, and the brash young Australian Boyd, find themselves forced to combine against an unknown enemy in an effort to avert disaster.”
