This good club edition is in generally very good condition. Undated but probably around 1960 (the copyright date is 1959. The dustjacket is rubbed along the top edge and there are some small nicks. Foxing to leading edges of pages and also to some of the pages (mostly the first few pages), but the book is eminently readable. “George Cole was an ordinary sort of fellow, rather above average in ability, though young to be manager of a bank; an ordinary man leading an ordered and protected life. He was not at all equipped for dealing with violence and tragedy. When these erupted suddenly into his life he was caught off balance.
