Comments & Further Information

A first UK edition hardback in very good condition for its age.   Bumped at head and tail of book spine which extends for about an inch along the front board.  The un-priced dust jacket is complete but is showing signs of wear and is a little grubby at the top edges internally.

Previously published in Spain. Translated from the Spanish by Concila Hayter.

SYNOPSIS:  “Heady, mystical and exotic, this is a delicately-written investigation into the nature of reality and imagination. In a timeless, dark hillside village two women meet: Maria, sensible, clear-sighted, modern, appalled and intrigued by the rites of the place she has come to as village schoolteacher; and dreamy Elsa, deeply, obsessively in love with a man she has met only twice. Elsa has come to the village to cultivate her love, to find a love that is better, more intense, closer to the ideal than anything our everyday reality allows.”
