A first UK edition paperback. The title was originally published in 1946 in the USA. The covers are showing signs of wear to the extremities. They are rubbed at the edges, and are also grubby and foxed. There is a name written in pencil on the front. Crease across the top left-hand corner of the rear cover. Spine slanted. Internally there is foxing and tanning throughout the book. Name and the date 5/8/53 written in pencil on the first page. The photos of the covers makes the book appear whiter/cleaner than it is.
A Dr Gideon Fell novel.
SYNOPSIS: “Not a single member of the Murder Club turned up for the dinner. This was odd, but it did not deter the principal guest from telling his story – a fantastic tale of an unsolved sword-stick murder that had taken place on top of a tower near Chartres, and of the strange manifestation there of a vampire. Curiously, one of his two listeners was to employ as a librarian a woman who had also played some part in the terrible story. It is down to Dr Fell to dispense the fears the reveal the truth.”
