Comments & Further Information

This is a book club edition hardback.  Undated, but circa 1956.  Bumped at head and tail of book spine and some staining to head of spine and about a third of the way down.  Tanning and foxing to pages including the end papers.   The dust jacket is generally in poor condition and showing its age.  It is rather fragile but is now in a sleeve.  There are pieces missing at the head and foot of the jacket spine and at the top and bottom  of the flaps.  Internally the dust jacket is extremely foxed and so is the rear panel, making it very discoloured.  Overall the dust jacket is grubby and definitely showing its age.

SYNOPSIS;  “Finlo Crennell, ex-harbourmaster of Castletown on the Isle of Man, has been missing for a week before he is found by police wandering in London suffering from loss of memory.   He is escorted back to the Island by Chief Inspector Littlejohn, of Scotland Yard, but is unable to throw any light on how he came to be in London or what he has been doing.

Within twenty-four hours, Crennel is found murdered – shot through the head.  Littlejohn is called in to investigate not only Crennell’s murder, but also that of Charles Cribbin, a bankrupt farmer, whose body is found in a desolate ruined house on the moors…”
